Day 1: Raw Food Cleanse

Today is day 1 of my 5 day raw food cleanse! No morning coffee (which for me has been a ritual since I traveled to Italy in May of 2008) and so far, so good. I feel surprisingly light and I'm excited for the challenge of this cleanse the next 5 days. For those of you wondering what this detox entails...

What Can I Eat?
  • Vegetables
  • Fruits
  • Sprouts
  • Green Smoothies
  • WATER
Greens need to be a staple during this detox because they're a powerhouse of vitamins and minerals which aid in:

-cancer prevention
-immune system strength
-improving liver, gall bladder and kidney function
-purifying blood
-keeping skin clear
-improving circulation
-promoting healthy intestinal flora

What Can't I Eat?
  • Meat
  • Dairy
  • Processed Foods
  • Sugar
  • Caffeine and Alcohol
My objective is not to focus on what I CAN'T eat but to think about all the positives (see above in green!) that come with this cleanse. Today's main focus is kicking my caffeine habit! There's no need to crave coffee when I can have a energizing green smoothie packed with nutrients that tastes great :)

Recipe:
1-2 cups of spinach
1 stalk of celery
1 banana
1 cup of frozen strawberries

I'm off to prepare for a health food store tour I'm doing later. 1 day down!
